Hibbleton Gallery presents: The Bloody Marys
September 28, 2012 in Downtown Fullerton Art Walk
“Our lives become our work of art”
–Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way
You are cordially invited to the next exhibit at Hibbleton Gallery, “The Bloody Marys” featuring artwork by Martha Bartholomew, Mildred Kouzel, Marjorie Kerr, Fay Colmar, and Virginia Spencer. The opening reception is Friday, October 5, 2012 from 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public.
The Bloody Marys, perhaps Fullerton’s longest-running artist collective, began over than 30 years ago, when painter Martha Batholomew invited four other women artists to her house/studio in Fullerton for Bloody Mary drinks and lunch. The group eventually added members and met once a month rotating the place, home/studio, to meet and share their art and lives. The serving of Bloody Marys became a tradition, so the group adopted that name for it’s feminist overtones also and just for fun. The group has exhibited at various galleries and at The Muckenthaler Cultural Center in Fullerton. Some members have passed on over the years, but the current five Bloody Marys continue to create and exhibit their artwork. Come see the work of some of Fullerton’s most prolific and established artists…The Bloody Marys.
