X-Border(less) @ BOOKMACHINE books + zines
August 27, 2013 in Downtown Fullerton Art Walk
You are invited to the next art exhibit at BOOKMACHINE books + zines in the Magoski Arts Colony, entitled “X-Border(less).” The opening reception is Friday, September 6th from 6-10pm, during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always this event is FREE!
The work presented here is a collection of mail art from inividuals who contributed to the box set called Linea Quebrada/The Broken Line. The project consists of a avant-garde installation/art magazine developed by performance artist Guillermo Gomez-Peña in collaboration with Marco Vinicio.
The main goal of the project is to challenge the idea of borders between countries and between humanity. This includes the borders that define our identity, sexuality, culture, class and art. The magazine is also a cultural artifact that confronts the issues of race and political economy along the Mexico/U.S. border. The emphasis is on the Tijuana/Mexico City metros and various Latin American partners involved in a conflicted and incestual relationship with the USA.
This presentation of Linea Quebrada / The Broken Line is intended to inspire and communicate the urgency for an art of political /ideological engagement.
