An Introduction to Iranian Cinema
August 28, 2014 in Downtown Fullerton Art Walk
For the last several decades, the world’s most innovative, poetic, and intellectually engaging cinema has typically come from Iran. This summer, Hibbleton Gallery owner Jesse La Tour and award-winning filmmaker Steve Elkins hosted a two-month Introduction To Iranian Cinema, meeting twice a week to watch and discuss the works of Iranian filmmakers, most of whom are internationally renowned, but not well-known in the United States.
To commemorate this series, Elkins and La Tour are creating a zine entitled “An Introduction to Iranian Cinema” which will include information about the major directors, themes, movements, and cultural contexts of the deep well of artistic achievement that is Iranian cinema.
In addition to the zine release, there will be screenings of excerpts from some classic and important films, along with an art exhibit containing poster art and still frames from the films we watched.
The opening reception is Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6-10 pm at Bookmachine books + zines (inside the Magoski Arts Colony) during the monthly Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public. Zines will be for sale for five bucks. Whatta deal!
Hope to see you there!
