GLASS FIELD BLACK: works by Sasoon Markarian

October 19, 2016 in Downtown Fullerton Art Walk

Hibbelton Gallery is pleased to present GLASS FIELD BLACK: A solo exhibition of works by SASOON MARKARIAN. The opening reception is Friday, November 4th, froom 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public.

With “Glass Field Black” Markarian presents the viewer with a layered discussion between the synthetic and organic materials employed in his creations, as well as between the textural qualities of the works and their relative processes. Experimentation plays a large role in the creation of these works. Markarian has become a conduit for nature creating organic processes, wherein one assumes the role of the creator setting a string of organic events into action. Textural fluidity intertwines, configuring a shift in form, and cellular structures begin to emerge in surfaced arrangements. The act of seeing becomes the main art act, in which decisions are made, based equally on aesthetic taste and imagination. The resulting works, in their current state, come to act as stone tablets, or monoliths – marking the final manifestations of a collaboration between an artist and the natural process of entropy.

Sasoon Markarian is a Los Angeles based artist. His vision is currently interpreted through paintings, material abstractions, textile re-imaginations, and installations. Adaption to the disciplines and forms in garment fabrication and silk screening have allowed him to develop a fully realized visual landscape. His work continues to expand through the process of procedural experimentation, dye manipulation, and industrial machinery implications. Recent collaborations include: Santa Monica Museum of Art (CA), St. Louis Museum of Art (MO), Dosa (LA, Paris, Tokyo), Columbia Square (Hollywood, CA), Austin Proper Hotel (TX), Herve Leger (LA), Kelly Wearstler (LA, NY, NC).
