Tanya Murdock @ Josephine Joan Gallery

June 1, 2017 in Downtown Fullerton Art Walk

The newly reopened JosephineJoan Gallery is proud to host Tanya Murdock for its first exhibition at its new location. The opening reception is Friday, June 2nd from 6-10pm during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. Murdock’s art pushes richly dense patterns to a dizzying point of saturation. Both her wall sculptures and her flat work invite you to get lost in their labyrinths of colors and details.

Murdock uses art as therapy to cope with her anxiety and has created innumerable volumes of sketchbooks filled with elaborate ink drawings. For this show, she incorporated them into mixed media collages on wood. The colorfully painted parts are actually Gelatin Mono prints created with Q-tips. These Q-tips are then upcycled into the accompanying rosette wall sculptures.

Local artists Leanne Sargeant and Valerie Lewis started this gallery in honor their grandmothers. Named for them, the gallery is located at 515 W Commonwealth Ave., Ste 102, Fullerton.
