ARTIST STATEMENT
I grew up a creative child, interested in Art and Music. I continue to push myself to this day, dabbling the same creative outlets, as a designer, artist, DJ and producer of electronic music.

My passion however, the past 4 years has been to get my hands messy, and not be confined to creating on strictly computers, drum pads and turntables. I love to push the envelope, I enjoy going into my zone and letting the creative self-therapy take over. I know my subject matter, my materials and that my creative instinct and knowledge of design will guide me throughout the process.

It’s very much about feeling with me. I stop when it feels like I’m forcing it, and continue to work when it calls me to do so.

My goal is to create aesthetically pleasing work, with either some substance to promote a dialog from the viewer, and/or to create those same aesthetically pleasing images with a space for the viewer to lose themselves, escape into the piece and just enjoy what they see, and feel the same freedom in viewing it, as I felt in creating it. I create art for me, but I also create to inspire and draw interest from other artists and collectors.

Dear friends,

You are cordially invited to Hibbleton Gallery’s next art exhibit entitled “Cryptids and Other Imaginary Specimens” featuring artwork by Nicole Sloan and Wendy Kubiak. The opening reception is Friday, June 7th from 6-10pm, during the Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. As always, this event is FREE and open to the public.

Nicole Sloan and Wendy Kubiak are visual artists with widely diverse backgrounds but a shared interest in watercolor as an expressive medium. With Kubiak’s meandering lines and Sloan’s bold colors, they showcase their different styles in relation to the content. Side by side, these artists work together to investigate their interpretations of oddities, both from popular culture and their own imaginations. This exhibition explores their mutual fascination with tall tales, strange beings, myth, and cryptozoology.

Nicole Sloan – MFA Photography
Wendy Kubiak – BA Anthropology

Hope to see you there!

Love,

With an extensive background in scenic artistry, having worked for many years at local amusement parks, theatres and small playhouses, professional Pictorial artist, Tamara Lujan, decided to merge those experiences with a lifelong desire to create her own worlds from dreams, fair tales and fantasies. She has had her original art in several galleries and along with a flow of custom commissioned work, Tamara has recently begun to teach fine art classes. Trying to keep a painterly feel to her artwork additionally creating those pieces using faux techniques learned along the way, Tamara brings the viewer on a journey through what may appear real but only is so in the mind. Currently living in Southern California with her husband and son, Tamara spends her free time in her studio thoroughly lost in painting. There are various half-done pieces lurking about the studio as Tamara usually jumps from one piece to another so not to get “stuck.” This has resulted in myriad worlds, realms and dreamscapes for Tamara to be able to share with all who would like to be a guest. One can be certain that there are still many worlds and cluttered dreams to pull into reality yet to be found through a paintbrush, bu if she continues with that of which she seems accustomed to doing, Tamara will find a way to bring them to the canvases surrounding her soon enough.

When Claudia Oun Ok Kim found more time on her hands and a new season in life, she decided to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams by putting her hand to paint. What began as a hobby and a journey to discover more about herself as an individual, became a passion and an avenue to pursue a professional career as an artist. Kim believes that no matter what life may bring you or what age you find yourself, new discoveries about yourself and even new careers can emerge.

Kim’s painting process begins as a sketch of her main concept on canvas. From there she paints on an acrylic plate and then presses it against the main canvas. She has experimented with this painting process to create layers of printed images that create a mystical effect that can’t be expressed by brush strokes.

Her colors are sweet and pleasant, well harmonized, and fulfill space with groups of indescribable shapes, which are amazingly alive at the same time. These groups of shapes embrace each other, and even further, they have a strong bond which becomes an axis of her paintings.

Kim’s artwork are formations of overcoming the years of unbearable hardships. Her passion for art is expressed through putting on canvas her emotions, griefs, heartaches and hopes. She embraces time and space and reaches out to the future full of delightful dreams.

Then stop by at 8:00 for OC’s Best Improv Comedy.

Brittni’s creative process is prompted out of urgency to express and be heard. Her works are filled with a world of vibrancy, seeking to instill the viewer with an experience completely subjective and moving, onwards and upwards towards exploration. For Brittni, creative works are about the process, the catharsis; to achieve inner peace and adoration of the results is always secondary. Ultimately, beauty is discovered with patience through the errors and honoring each step of construction. She is deeply inspired by Mother Earth’s creative energy, poetry, movement, the eye’s innate ability of perception, and life’s trial and errors.

Brittni is a local artist, born and raised in Orange County.

You are cordially invited to a two day opening reception,
Friday May 3rd & Saturday May 4th 2013, 6-11 pm.
“LOVE. SEX. UNITY. RESPECT.” an art exhibit
in support of marriage equality and the LGBT community.
On Display May 3 — May 25, 2013 at the Magoski Arts Colony
(home of PÄS, Hibbleton, Violethour Galleries and artist studios)
223/225 W. Santa Fe Ave., Fullerton, CA 92832

Valerie Lewis

motivation for the exhibit:
In 2008, Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in the State of California, passed with a little more than 52% of the vote. Fullerton, combined with our neighbors in the northern most parts of Orange County, however, passed Prop 8 by 63%. It is important that those who aim to monopolize love and marriage understand to whom they are denying a fundamental social institution. In a small way this exhibit hopes to further acceptance and understanding through art which is inspired by the belief that all non-exploitative love is beautiful and valid.

the theme is “love”
this exhibit was open to any talented established or emerging artists who were appalled at same sex discrimination and the passage of laws such as Proposition 8 which deny one segment of the population equal access to marriage. The exhibit took on a voice of it’s own, one which exceeded our expectations and almost all of the art is positive in nature; celebrating love in any of it’s combinations, documenting the beautiful and ordinary lives of same sex couples, or otherwise supporting the LGBTQ community. Art on exhibit does not shame those who disagree with us as this only continues division. It is our belief that by elevating the importance of LOVE, the only measure by which candidates planning to marry should be judged, that we will find common ground and acceptance.

the agenda
“LOVE. SEX. UNITY. RESPECT.” hopes to accomplish the following:

To show mass love to Orange Counties LGBT Community

To put Fullerton on the right side of historyTo soften the hearts of those who today may not relate to what they believe is a lifestyle choice.

Unite like-minded residents in the common goal of legalizing same-sex marriage in California.

Raise significant funds by donating 50% of proceeds from the sale of art to OC AIDS WALK, which is taking place the weekend of the exhibit’s opening, and to raise further funds through our Art With An Agenda AIDS Walk team. Please see out AIDS Walk tab to join or donate. . The remaining 50% of proceeds from the sale of any work will be returned to the artist whose piece sold.

Continue to bring attention to the Fullerton Art Walk, participating artists, galleries, and the power of art.

We appreciate your interest and support.

This Friday, April 5 is the monthly Downtown Fullerton Art Walk. That means over 30 venues in downtown Fullerton will be showing artwork, and you can enjoy it with your family and friends for FREE! The artwalk begins at 6pm and goes until 10. For a full list of venues and info, visit www.fullertonartwalk.com. Here are some of the fantastic things you can check out this Friday.

In the Magoski Arts Colony, there are three main galleries and several artist studios. PAS Gallery will be showing work by local artist Dan Joyce in a show entitled Microstars.

Also in the Magoski Art Colony, Hibbleton Gallery will be showing work by Angela Rossi, in a show entitled “Beat Up Creations.” Born and bred in Los Angeles, Rossi is a self-taught, outsider artist that works with recycled, abused, broken and forgotten items creating altered antique plates, raw assemblage sculptures and mixed media portraits.

Directly behind Hibbleton Gallery is BOOKMACHINE, Fullerton’s only zine store. A zine is an independently-published magazine, featuring art and/or writing. This Friday, BOOKMACHINE features the release of Ted Trager’s zine “Twenty Dudes,” which features drawings of various men (past and present) whom he finds interesting. Most of the “dudes” are not widely known. Ted’s interests are wide, so he draws artists (like Teching Hsieh, Dieter Roth, and Chris Ware), musicians (like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Ornette Coleman), filmmakers (like David Lynch, Abbas Kiarostami, and Werner Herzog), writers (like Philip K. Dick, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and Breece D’J Pancake), and historical figures like Emperor Norton I.

Violethour Studio in the Magoski Arts Colony will feature the work of local artist James Estrada, in a show entitled “Invisible Qualities: A Visual Translation.”

Several individual artists will be exhibiting their studio work on Friday, including Valerie Lewis, Leanne Sargeant, Roxanna Mostatabi, Esther Jacks, Patrick Nguyen, Anna Hansen, Ricardo Gonsalves and others! In addition to the Magoski Arts Colony, there are many other amazing venues showing great work. For example…

Studio EMP will be showing the surf photographs of Jack Hudkins…

Roadkill Ranch will be showing work by John Sollom, whom OC Weekly named Best Visual Artist in Orange County!

Check out the show at Share & Do Good, featuring art by Kam Redlawsk from GreenGreenGrass Illustrations. Her pieces are incredibly moving and will help to fund research for Hereditary Inclusion Body Myopathy, a rare condition that Kam was born with. She inspires me to continue to be passionate and work hard to help others even when obstacles seem too big to overcome.
