The three loves of my life are my family, friends and photography.   My husband says it’s my patience with my students, our children and him that has allowed me to develop from  person who takes a lot of pictures into a gifted artist whose work captures the imagination. for me there is nothing more exciting than heading to the beach with a bottle of wine and my camera and waiting – I guess that’s where the patience comes in – for the sun to paint the sky in ways words cannot describe.

When I was in college my parents bought me an instamatic camera.  M love of nature influenced my concentration on landscape photography.  One of my colleagues at the elementary school where I taught since moving to California in 1997 claims my images capture “God showing off.”  Unfortunately, while Divine influence may play a role in what appears in my lens, it doesn’t always guide the steps I take to catch those precious moments.  While photographing a magnificent sunrise along Lake Michigan, my foot became entangled in some seaweed and I suffered a fractures ankle.

After college I took a class in 35mm photography and purchased my first SLR camera, a Fujica, which I used for more than twenty years. The transition from film to digital photography was difficult initially because the original point and shoot cameras were limited and often produced grainy images.  When my family bought me a Nikon D5100 for a retirement gift, they knew it would launch me into the digital age.

Since my retirement from three decades of teaching children with special needs, my family and friends have encouraged me to share my work with others.  My photography has been featured at All the Arts for All the Kids Art Auction, the Art Walk in Fullerton and at the Celebration of the Arts Festival near our home in Yorba Linda, California.

Now, it gives my great please to share my creations with you.  Take your time and explore my gallery.  If you see something you like I hope you will take it home and make it part of your collection.  To see more of my work or to contact me please visit my website at DebbieDoesPhotography.com.
